Re: IP2 losing power
Sounds like things might benefit from a richer mixture.Try a half a turn on each carb (clockwise), and see what the difference is.

Re: IP2 losing power
Sounds to me that something is stopping one or both of the dampers from rising properly.Try just unscrewing the damper rods (but don't pull them clear of the carbs) and try to lift the dampers with the rod.Generally speaking, Rotella 40 or equivalent is the right oil for the dashpots.Make sure you h...

Re: Draining commander fuel tank?!?
You could use the fuel tap set on the "prime" position, a length of hose and a gallon tin to drainmost of the fuel out?Not sure, by the way, what you mean by a bolt on the left hand side of the IP2 tank?

Re: Help with putting a Norton F1 back on the road please
Tig,As far as I remember with the F1, with the ignition on (without the motor running) and the throttle closed, the fuel pump should run continuously. Fuel can be heard sloshing around the "weir" at the rear of the tank. (One of the reasons for this was to prevent the carbs flooding on the...

I'm with Carole Nash, and pay about £230 for the two rotaries.I'm paying extra for the F1 engined special, but it wouldn't hurt to try Peter james at renewal time. It's just a faff explaining the modifications.

Re: IP2 Sprague clutch
Quite a common fault. It'll more than likely need a new sprag bearing, although it runs in a sleeve (press fitted into the clutch) and sometimes these can wear.Try a replacement bearing first. It fits under a smaller version of the circlip that holds in the diaphragm spring.Easy to replace, and I'm s...

How old is your radiator?Maybe a good time to have the rad overhauled? Is the fan working ok, and spinning in the right direction? Bob, I've often wondered what Doug's modification involved, mainly because it's fitted to my old air-cooled- the "Wust". Remember that?Well, it's still running beautifully with about 110K covered and I still love it to bits. You are dead right of course, the neutral finding is always perfec...

I can attest to Bob's riding and technical skill during my time at Norton, and rode with him quite a few times.I used to watch aghast (and of course with admiration) at some of his antics, and usually got the impression that he was hardly trying.Three of us were out on Interpols on one ride, somewhe...

Yes Don Woodward was a brilliant and thoroughly nice bloke to know.I got to know Don in the late 80's during my time at Shenstone. He certainly did a lot of work for Norton, including the original "Aurora" ( where did that name come from? ) tanks of the late 70's rotaries, Classic , FI , P...

That looks quite normal to me and there isn't much you can do about it.If the wear on the edge is particularly bad ( where the small part of the seal rubs ) rebuild the engine with the apex seals upside down.Atb.

Hello Blair,Carbon on the rotors is nothing to worry about, unless it's black and oily.Check that it's not over oiling ( which isn't detrimental to the engine- unless you ride it slow ) if it worries you.Other than that, give it a bit of "Italian tuning"

If it is very reluctant to fire it might be due to fuel having turned into toffee in the carb float bowls. You might just be lucky though.

Re: Commander running problems
How is it running now? From the way you describe the problem, it sounds almost as though you might have a blocked fuel filter, and / or failing ignition box.Sudden clouds of smoke can indicate a sudden unblocking of the frame drain into the left carb. For it to happen after you made your mod maybe coi...

Try Norman Hyde of Warwick who supplies Ikon suspension units and springs. The Ikon springs will fit the koni units, and from memory a 213 spring is the next stronger spring up from the std P52/P53 spring. If you want to go stronger, try 222 springs.ATB.

Re: CARBONE IN THE ENGINE
Yes, as I remember the air-cooled bikes had a reputation for running rather warm. In fact they were affectionately known as "mobile furnaces".I recall an Ip2 coming in from Notts police (I think) that was claimed to have reached near to 300C! It had run that hot that the air-box had melted...
