Re: Commander on Ebay
So, it did find a new home !, hope you don't have too much trouble registering it, the DVLA have always been helpful with me but if paperwork isn't exactly what they want, they can be very difficult it seems. Keep us informed, always good to hear how someone is doing with restorations, you clearly l...

Re: classic TT, 2017
Hi Wayne van costs, yes, a problem. We really needed a van so the bikes could be put away at night, a weeks hire plus the ferry cost was a cost too far. We settled on a day hire to Liverpool and same to come back and will cope with luggage onto the ferry ! An F1 Sport isn't exactly luggage friendly ...

classic TT, 2017
As a 70th birthday treat, my son has booked us in at the August event. I will probably take the F1 Sport. Problem is, the hotel, in Douglas, has only on-street parking. I haven't been to the island for 20 years, how risky is it leaving a special bike on the street these days ? I would take a cover a...

Re: Commander on Ebay
The ad reads like it's a project bike with no import documents to register it with. Triumph gearbox ? I thought it was Yamaha, maybe I'm wrong. Only 600 made ? Nearly 1000 more like. Caveat emptor...........Regards all

JPS leathers
Just been to a classic car event in the Netherlands. Whilst walking around, met a local visitor in a set of JPS leathers. Looked superb. He had had them made new when the JPS bikes were racing. No bike, but had to have the leathers , because, he says, they were made in the Netherlands by Lookwell. H...

Re: oil injector pump
Thanks Wayne, what I'm hoping to find out is which bike so I can research what pumping rate the pump is, so many CC's per so many revs. There's a big variety of figures given by owners on what miles per pint bikes are doing, 300 right up to 500. It must vary on what speed you travel at as it is throt...

Re: Norton at the 2016 TT
Yes, I noticed his back wheel was off the ground shortly before the bales. Shame, he was lapping really well. One year at the TT, I was at Bradden Bridge and watched Joey Dunlop go straight on at the left onto the bridge, outbraked himself, if Joey could do it, no shame for Dave. At the speeds reach...

Re: Norton at the 2016 TT
It was the superbike not the senior, in the senior it failed to get round Sulby bridge and went into the field (rider OK), keeps Norton in the news, what pity it didn't have on of Brian Crightons' engines in it !Oh well, a V4 sounds OK to me.

Re: clutch lift plate
Have a look inside that multi-plug. If it has corrosion, that could create enough resistance to heat the wire up. This is a common problem on Honda motorbike reg/recs. Despite Honda quality. There's no guarantee the wiring was perfect from new. Less than a 1000 bikes is not exactly a Jap high spec pr...

Re: clutch lift plate
Regards the wiring, to get warm just 'cause it's switched on is a warning to me ! It does sound like an excess current drain but I think I would look at checking what wire size is feeding that part of the loom. It's possible the wire was never heavy enough.. Maybe in the past someone has looped too ...

Re: Starting Commander after 5 years
My F1 sport was off the road 10 years. I had drained all fuel so knew that side was OK. I sprayed a small shot of WD40 in each chamber every day for a week, turning the engine over each time. Just to ensure no seals were gummed up. (was run on Rotella). She fired up no problem, rode it for the summer...

Re: Norton Rotary's at the classic TT
I now have clarification from one of Fuch's chemical engineers. (Harold Lim). Although Classic 2T premix is not suitable for injector systems, in general terms, as it is a heavier 40 grade oil, this heavier oil with its' ester blends and ashless additives is more suitable for the apex seals of a rot...

Re: Norton Rotary's at the classic TT
Hi Wayne, it wasn't an article, it was what Fuchs pointed out to me when I asked them if Classic 2T premix was suitable for Norton Rotaries, as they were oil injectors and 2T premix is a heavier oil, suitable for tank mix. Injectors use thinner oils as all the modern Jap 2 stroke bikes have metered ...

Re: Norton Rotary's at the classic TT
Thanks Wayne, so that confirms they are still using the oil injector as well as tank premix. Reason I asked, I have had an e-mail reply from Fuchs that Classic 2T pre-mix is not suitable for oil injector pumps. Too thick an oil. I got a 5 litre for my F1 Sport and another for my son's Yamaha LC's, b...

Norton Rotary's at the classic TT
I have just read that the Norton race bikes at the classic TT were using pre-mix oil. So, are non of those bikes fitted with injectors , or, are they injectors and using pre-mix also ?Anyone know ?Regards all, Terry.F1 Sport, actually on the road this summer !

Re: cooling probs.
Basics, either too much heat being produced, or insufficient cooling, or both. So, mixture too weak, ignition too retarded or too advanced, brakes binding ?, all will create extra heat. Cooling; poor airflow over the fins caused by changes to mudguard/fork shape, added horns or lights for instance. E...

Re: Bike Insurance
As my F1 sport had been in the dining room for the last 10 years, I had not made any changes to its' insured value. Now its' up and running again, I thought it best to up the value, especially as there is an F1 for sale at the moment at above £22,000. Carole Nash tell me the max value a post 1985 bi...

Re: left hand rotor oil bias
Hello Joe, that'll be 2 Sports on the road this summer ! Anyone else? Do check the petrol pipes under the tank. Mine were ready to split ( though she has been off the road 10 years) and any fuel that leaks from the under-tank pipes goes straight down to the spark plugs, nasty.Overall, she burns equa...

Re: left hand rotor oil bias
Hello Joe, no centre stand on the F1 so I expect a bit of L/H smoke when first starting, but it does'nt show any excess smoke that side and both sides clean up fairly quick. It seems it's only when it's hot and idling a while at lights that there is visible smoke on the L/H side. The exhaust outlets...

Re: left hand rotor oil bias
My only transport some 50 years ago was a featherbed dommi 99. As you say , no vice's steering wise, very neutral. The F1's are quite slow steering as the headstock is 27 deg. I've jacked the back some 20mm and dropped the forks about 8mm, it's now 26deg and pushs nicely out of corners. Back to oili...

Re: left hand rotor oil bias
Many thanks for the above, I'm going to have a look in the plenum chamber and see if there's something that can be done with the oil pick-up arrangement.I did set the oil pump , cold engine, so there may be some room for fine tuning. Both fuel and oil tanks were full at start time, I am recording mil...
