F1 Sport in Gulf livery
When the sponsorship for the JPS race team by Imperial Tobacco was drawing to an end, Norton started looking for alternate sources of income.Gulf oils had supported the JPN Commando-based team in the 70's so an approach was made to them. As a 'visual aid', one of the development Sports was repainte...

Re: Video clip
I recall that Show well ! The Commander was the first mock-up produced from Seymour Powell's clay model, converted into glass fibre by Mitchenall's and delivered to the NEC straight from final titivating at SP's. As a mock-up, there was nothing much under the bodywork, a fact noted by a group of We...

Tom Wheatcroft
Saddened to report that Tom Wheatcroft died yesterday after a long illness. He revived the Donington circuit some thirty years ago and established the museum of F1 cars there.I recall seeing, in the late 80's, a V16 BRM having new fuel and oil tanks being made at an alloy craftsman's workshop. When a...

Biker's furniture for sale
For a peaceful life, you've sometimes got to spend the pension on things other than the bike or the boat. So, I am instructed by 'er indoors to dispose of our lounge and dining room furniture even though it's almost perfect and only twenty years old. All by William Lawrence, Faversham style, and var...

I sorted through my 'pump' drawer today and found four 4-outlet pumps that will fit a Norton and one bigger 4-outlet in a Suzuki box marked 'GT750'. Unfortunately, my camera was not to hand but I'll try again tomorrow.I had always believed that the 4-outlet pump was for a 3-cylinder/4-bearing crank...

Re: oil pump
Another 'just-after-pressing-submit' thought. Some the NRS588 (or was it RCW588) race bikes had an auxiliary feed direct to the rotor bearings by means of a spark-eroded oilway along each end of the eccentric shaft. These used the four outlet pump, main feed going to the main bearings as usual and s...

Jump off Beachy Head, anyone ?
After setting up UAV Engines in 1991, Managing Director David Garside was approached by an individual who wanted to buy a 38bhp single rotor engine for a paramotor application. Paramotors, for those unfamiliar, are basically paragliders with an engine/propellor strapped on your back. Never one to m...

I went to a kart race meeting near Grantham ten days ago just to see these engines racing.
